Scrap Fabric Sewing Projects!

First off you’ll find a collection of project ideas for re-purposing various sizes of fabric scraps leftover from sewing projects - because let’s be real, offcuts are a given.

After you’re feeling inspired with all the new projects to add to your list from the below suggestions, you’ll then find an up to date list of our go-to fabric sources. Enjoy!

SMALL SCRAPS

BELOW 0.3m:

- Stuffing for pillows or garment padding

- Small patches to cover up garment rips

- Composting natural fibres. Natural textiles that can easily biodegrade (break down naturally from bacteria) include cotton, silk, wool and hemp. Decomposing period varies. Shred them before putting in your compost. 

- Face or eye masks

- Small accessories: purse, makeup bag, pencil/camera case, scrunchies, etc 

- Straps or belts for other projects

- Pockets (internal or external)


MEDIUM SCRAPS

0.3m - 1m:

- Patchwork to create garments, quilts/blankets, or accessories

- Rags for mechanics or around home

- Donate to schools for home economic classes 

- Medium accessories: baguette bags, tote bags, bucket hats, etc

- Homewares: wall banners, placemats, coasters, display pillows, etc

- Small garments: Boob tube or cami style mid drift tops, swimwear or underwear.

 

LARGE SCRAPS

ABOVE 1m:

- Larger accessories: duffle bags, etc

- Larger homewares: european pillows, poufs/floor cushions, etc

- Larger patchwork pieces (eg. legs of pants, panels for dresses, sleeves on jackets) 

- Donate (eg. Animal shelters or vets) 

- Resell (eg. pre-loved/destash markets or online)

- Fabric upcycling

- Medium garments: shorts, button up tops, blouses, etc
