Oversized Blazer Thrift Flip
It may have taken us running all around the coast in search of these thrifted jackets and a few mini meltdowns during the making process. But I’m soo happy with how this transformation turned out!
My friend Abbie and I attempt to turn a thrifted oversized men’s blazer jacket into a two piece, skirt and top combo set! Below you’ll find the full video taking you through the journey of upcycling these jackets. This is more of a vlog style compared to my usual straight forward tutorials so I’ve also noted the general steps in this blog incase that helps make it clearer.
If you’re looking for a fun, sustainable and stylish sewing thrift flip project, then I this might be the perfect option for you!
Enjoy!

General Sewing Overview
This is more of a vlog style compared to my usual straight
forward tutorials but essentially these are the steps:
STEP 01: Measure the ideal length of the skirt from the jacket and add enough seam allowance (1/2 inch or 1cm is plenty)
STEP 02: Cut along this line
STEP 03: Take in dart points on side seam sections of the skirt
STEP 04: Move buttons across to new section of the front overlap
STEP 05: Clean top waistline of the skirt by sewing lining and main material good sides facing then flip back out to reveal clean seam
STEP 06: Repeat clean seam process for the bottom of the jacket.
(TIP: I cut an opening in the lining to make it easier to flip inside out and back through, then just closed it up once that was complete)

Don’t forget that sewing is meant to be fun. Enjoy the creative process and don’t put so much pressure on yourself that it becomes unenjoyable.
It’s one of those things that the more you do it, the more you’ll improve over time!
